Belting Fabrication Techniques

Seam Descriptions:
  • LacedLaced - strong and flexible, Alligator, or Clipper, type metal lacing is locked into reinforcement belt ends. The ends are then meshed and joined by a pin.
  • HingeHinge - Separate metal sections are folded over belt ends and then heat sealed or stitched in place. This seam is produced with TCK®, KEVLAR® fabric coated with PTFE.
  • CableCable - High temperature webbed synthetic fabric assures high-strength performance of the cable seam. Ends are joined by a wire that is fed through to complete the seam.
  • Fold Back LoopFold Back Loop - The frame of our open weave belting material is folded back onto itself at each end and stitched into place. The ends are joined together with a pin and fed through to complete the seam. A seam is created from the same material as the belt itself.
  • PinPin - Reweaving that provides a mechanical joining technique with benefits of an endless belt. The ends are meshed together and joined with a pin passed through the loops. Joining pins are available in stainless steel of non-metallic materials.
  • Endless WovenEndless Woven - The ends are joined by reweaving the warp threads into the belt frame of the opposite belt end, producing a truly endless belt. It has great overall flexibility and tracking characteristics.
  • TCK® 90TCK® 90 - This is braided KEVLAR® yarns which is woven into an open weave. this strong seam is then stitched to the belt frame producing a open weave seam that doesn’t block airflow. This is perfect for drying applications.

Heat Sealed Splices
  • Overlap seam - ends are overlapped and heat sealed together.
  • Butt seam - Ends are butted together with a reinforcement placed under the seam and heat sealed together.
  • Skived (or scarfed) splice - This is a type of overlapping that reduces the thickness of the seam and mark-off.

Edge Reinforcement - This protects the edge from wear and unraveling, and gives a uniform edge for automatic tracking sensors. We offer the following edge reinforcement on all belting styles and recommend the for open mesh belting.
